Problem with rpmdrake, how can I specify a different drive?
Hi there,
I just installed Mandrake 10.1 from a DVD. That worked fine, except that some of the steps are awfully slow. Does anyone know why that is? Sometimes it takes 5 minutes before the installation screen updates. For example in the summary screen when I want to update the screen resolution, printer, etc. it can take minutes before something happens.
Anyway, that's not my main question. After rebooting everything seems to work great. I then opened the Mandrake Control Center and selected "Software Management" / "Install". I believe the GUI that comes up is called rpmdrake, is that correct? Anyway, after selecting the software that I want to install and hitting the "install" button, it says "Please insert the medium named "installation DVD" on device [/dev/hdc]". Unfortunately this is my CD writer. I assume my DVD writer is drive /dev/hdd, not sure about that. How can I make sure that rpmdrake reads my DVD drive, not the CD drive? How do I specify different drives?
Just edit the paths of the current source and change it to the right drive. If you start the Mandrake Control Center, and go to the software module, there is an option to manage your sources, do it from there. Make sure that your Mandrake installation disc is in the dvdrom drive when you edit the source.
Where can I find that option to manage the sources? I've been looking for that everywhere and couldn't find it which is why I posted my question here in the first place. I also tried to read the help pages, but I guess those pages aren't installed because it wants me to put the DVD in the CDROM drive Are there any files that I can edit so that rpmdrake accesses the DVD drive instead of the CDROM drive?
Like you said, I opened the Media Manager. For some reason I couldn't edit the source that was already there. But I was able to disable it and then add a new one in which I point to my DVD drive.
