Networking two PC

Hi Guys,
I have two PC networked using cross over cable.

System1 is a Intel 1.0GHz with Compex LAN card.
It has Windows 2000 installed and IP configured as 192.168.0.1 and subnetmask a 255.255.255.0
With ADSL USB modem for Internet connection.

System 2 is Intel 400MHz with Compex LAN card
It has Mandrake Linux 10.0 installed and I have configured the IP as 192.168.0.2 Netmask as 255.255.255.0 and Gateway referring the System 1 as 192.168.0.1

I am able to ping each other with out any loss. So this shows the network is working fine right?

What I want to be able to do is System2 to share internet connection. With what I have setup that doesnt seem to happen.

I had it working previously but after reinstalling Mandrake again after some serious HDD trouble, its not working now.

Any idea how am I to go about to get theu this. Please understand that I am new to Linux and am exploring around...

Thanks for help..

If system one is setup to share the connection do this on system 2..

route add default gw 192.168.0.1
then add the dns servers to /etc/resolv.conf

You can get them from system 1 like this

ipconfig /all

if it's not working maybe it's a firewall setup, try pinging an ip address on the internet.

Hi I am a little confused.

I redid the process of configuring the network. Please help me out...

MDK Contol Centre>>Network $Internet>>New Connection
I chose the network card eth0:.
After clicking next I chose manual configuration and entered the IP adress and Netmask as i told you b4.

After clicking next I get this thing where I have to enter some things.
Hostname:
DNS Server 1: 192.168.0.2(was already entered)
Server 2 :127.0.0.1(already entered)
gateway :255.255.255.0(already entered)

I left it as it is amd the next was Zeroconf Host name. Any idea what is that? What do I enter into this field?

Do I change any of the stufs here?

And I didnt get it about the /etc/resolv.conf
what do i exactly type in?

thx

127.0.0.1 can't be correct. That's the machine your on.

gateway is 192.168.0.1

server is 192.168.0.1

just enter the DNS servers in the place provided as it says when you run this ..

ipconfig /all

you need to open a command tool to do it so goto the start menu / run program and type cmd, then type ipconfig /all
