I have just re-installed mandriva 2005, but now the network doesn't work properly. the network cards are configured properly, and the network control panel shows that my linksys router has assigned it an ip address, but firefox, konqueror, and all other programs can't access the internet...

any ideas on how to fix this?

You need basic troubleshooting steps - try to ping various things (your linksys router would be a good start). Try to ping by known IP's.

If you're getting a DHCP address and hostname from your router, your cabling and internal network is probably good. Try pinging your router's IP and that will give you a good sense of where the problem is.

If you can ping 216.239.39.99, but you can't ping google.com, then you have a DNS issue and you need to start troubleshooting that.

ok,

When I try to ping it says host unreachable, destination unreachable, and operation not permitted.

hmmn so this means my config is wrong somewhere, what on my system should look at to fix?

***EDIT***
Ok, I tried restarting my computer and it got stuck at shutting off nifd, what should I do about this?

strangely enough, after a few reboots, now the internet and everything is working fine.
