So you want to be able to connect to your desktop while you're not there via the internet?

Only when I'm here.

I think you've got your wires crossed somewhere (networks, wires get it ;-).

What purelithium is trying to find out is where are these machines located. Do you want to access your home PC using your laptop while your at work/college/etc? Or are these machines located in the same building/room?

Hmm... well if I understand you correctly, you want to set up a home network.

You can use Samba, or you can use NFS. Samba is the same protocol that windows uses with it's networking, so if you'll ever be working with a windows user or if you'll ever be working with windows on one of your computers, Samba is the way to go. NFS on the other hand, is Unix based. I don't know much about it, so maybe someone else can enlighten us both!

these two tutorials helped me out a lot. They aren't for Mandriva, but you can get the point from them.

So I think that's what you wanted, but if you have any more questions, let me know.

Smb4k is on both pc and laptop.

This is samba, isn't it?

Both pc and laptop are the same
as in 'don@localhost' and same passwords.

This has to change, doesn't it?

It's a little more complicated than that, that's why I suggest reading those tutorials that I posted. I don't want to re-write things here that are already written and available for you to read yourself.
