This is my second reload of Mandriva and I tried installing MPlayer and it wont open. I get the following message below, why, and what do I need to do?

You need to specify a file to play: mplayer /path/to/file

To load the GUI, you need to run gmplayer.

When I type the word "gmplayer' nothing it happens. I have tried to open it and to run from the run menu and also run from Konsole and nothing ever happens

dolphans1 - do you get exactly the same error when trying to run it with a filename?

I never tried to do it the way you have described. I always understood that it should just open up by typing in mplayer.

I tried compiling mplayer recently and found I couldn't use the gui. I had a few errors with it so in the end gave up and installed the rpm. The development packages mplayer requires seem to be different versions from what you get with mandriva so that might be causing errors.

Finally got it installed....

use urpmi or RPMdrake to install gmplayer
