Hi!

You maybe don't have bunzip2 package installed?. Try using the tar command, it can also uncompress bunzip:

tar -xjf 20050412.tar.bz2

Mplayer

Hi Megamanx

Used the command tar xjf 2005042 .

Compressed file ends unexpectedly perhaps it is corrupted

Read me file: The file I have is only a binary codec for use with Mplayer.

I do not have Mplayer or tar bz2 in Mandriva 10.2 .

Have Totem Media Player. Is that the same as Mplayer?.

Thanks for reply

Maurice

Hi again Maurice Arthur!

That's a difficult question. As far as I remember, every distro out there ships with crippled versions of totem, mplayer and even xmms. What I mean is, they usually can't play DivX, mp3 or DVD's. I would ratter prefer that they would not be shipped with those players at all. It's more like a burden then a help.

Still, perhaps through urpmi you should be able to install an usable version of mplayer. Configure your urpmi using this site:

http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/

when done, you should be able to install mplayer by simply typing "urpmi mplayer", I guess.

Read these if you are not sure what urpmi is/does:

http://www.urpmi.org/

Good luck!

Mplayer

Hi Megamanx
I have used the prebuilt Mplayer from Mandrive 10.2 CD and have blue skin play on desktop
Readme mentions /usr/lib/codecs to load the binary codecs for use with Mplayer.
Have the down loaded essential -20050412 ,
Need to put these files so MPlayer can find them. Where do they go?
Have had a look at Mplayer Preferences No idea what to configure.
Notice > No Media opened.
Does Mplayer play DVD movies?
Enjoying searching my Mandriva system for help

The codecs for DVD playing and video files are in the PLF repository that you setup at easyurpmi.zarb.org

Look through the software installer in the MCC and you should find the stuff you need. Especially look at the win32-codecs package
