Red face Mandrake 9.1: No login prompt. Just a blue screen

So I finally installed Mandrake Linux 9.1 on my secondary slave drive. I'm running win 2K on my primary drive. The installation part went rather smoothly i.e. partitioning, root account, user account, LILO etc. After the installation was finished, I was prompted to reboot my machine, which I did ofcourse. So now I get this nice looking GUI which has a dropdown with options to select LINUX, FAILSAFE, WINDOWS, and FLOPPY.

So I selected Linux. After it boots, instead of seeing a login screen, all I am seeing is a nice big blue screen. thats all. just a blue screen. No login dialog box. No way to login to the system. Can someone tell me what I did incorrectly? does it have to do with my video card? i've got a Matrox Millenium II PCI card, nothing fancy at all. I'm pretty sure, Mandrake was able to recognize it, afterall I installed version 9.1.
Any ideas?
