Good grief...just received my 4-CD set of 10.1 Official in the mail today, haven't even got it installed (I dread it so) and already I'm assured at least 70 things in it need fixing.
Sure makes me wonder if I wouldn't be better off sticking with 9.2 Only thing is, it will eventually be obsolete. Even open-source isn't immune from (semi-) planned obsolescence.
:sigh deeply:

Can you elaborate on where to find these 70 fixes?!
I went ahead and installed, as upgrade, Mdk 10.1 Official this evening.
Then I updated my easy urpmi sources for 10.1 Official.
Then I ran Mandrake update--and it only found five items, dealing with gaim and perl, that were updatable!
Meanwhile, my mouse won't scroll, just as with 10.1 Community. But at least with the Community release, I was able to make it work ok by switching it from USB to PS2 port. Now it won't scroll on either one!
Sorry for all the exclamation marks but --I'm feeling pretty PERTURBED!!
Any help greatly appreciated. I want to fix the USB at least--then see if I want to keep 10.1. If my mouse won't scroll, period, I'm going back to 9.2 --again. Or maybe I should say AGAIN!!

Jon,
Do urpmi.update -a and then urpmi --auto --auto-select.

I did that, and this was the result:
Code:
[root@bodhisattva jon]# urpmi --auto --auto-select
unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "Installation CD 2 (cdrom2)"
unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "Installation CD 4 (KDE 3.3) (cdrom4)"
unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "Installation CD 3 (cdrom3)"
unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "Installation CD 1 (cdrom1)"
medium "Installation CD 1 (cdrom1)" is not selected
Any suggestions???
(P. S. I checked and all the CD paths appear OK and also the ones for the remote mirrors.)

I used <a href="http://easyurpmi.zarb.org">easyurpmi</a> to get updates, doing a urpmi.removemedia -a first and selecting update, main and contrib. Then I did the above stuff.
There are also updates to OpenOffice that moves you to 1.1.3 .

Are there fixes available for those of us who already installed KDE 3.3? Mainly, I am concerned about the USB issues.
Thanks

Glad indeed to hear these fixes worked so well.
But are they available only to those subscribing to Mandrakeonline?
I'm a member of MandrakeClub, and have no objection to subscribing to Mandrakeonline as well, but am wary because there have been SERIOUS payment problems connected with Mandrake (not their fault, but the fault of the service they employ for money transactions--see separate thread), and I can't afford to be charged, say, $2,000 for what should cost $20.
I went to MandrakeClub home page and saw only three or four updates of any kind mentioned there, none of which probably affect my setup.
Rather confused at this point.

Jonr,
These fixes SHOULD be available for everyone. The way I updated my Mandrake is because I am subscribed to and have the Mandrakeonline feature. It just automatically updated everything for me. In theory, you should be able to go to the Mandrake Control Center and check for updates in there and it SHOULD have them all there. Unless, of course, the package you received already has these fixes built in and this was specifically only a download problem for members.
As for payment problems for Mandrake, I have no idea about that. I recently joined the silver membership about a week ago and they charged the correct amount on my credit card. Of course, if they charge you $2,000 on your credit card, you could always call up your credit card company and they'll straighten it out.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Had a little trouble getting it because among other things Thunderbird is not acting right under 10.1.
All Mandrake Update showed was those gaim and perl updates, which I installed anyway, though the gaim ones are totally useless to me.
I guess I'll have to spend a couple of days re-installing everything under 9.2 again. I'm getting so tired of this, but I don't have my whole life (I'm 64 already) to devote to these hassles.
Don't know what I'll do when 9.2 gives out and is basically useless. I can't afford a Mac.

OK, I'm outa here on this 10.1 business. I don't have time for this. I'd rather spend a day or so getting back to 9.2 where I can actually use my computer than to mess with this not-ready version. I can't even get the updates people are talking about.
Very disappointed, bitter, and frustrated at this point.

Don't despair - there is just something wrong with the setup of easyurpmi and some mirrors.
For instance, I got an empty list too, when using mcc - software management - updates.
Then I went to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org, selected 'official' in step 1, proceeded to step 2, selected 'updates' and I got this:
urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror...s/current/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz
for step 3.
But when I browsed to that address: ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror...s/current/RPMS I found no trace of ../base/hdlist.cz (one dir up there should have been a dir called 'base' and it should have contained a file 'hdlist.cz'). So I looked on, and I found a subdir in ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror...s/current/RPMS with the name 'media_info' - and inside sure enough, I found the hdlist.cz.
So I used this, as root:
urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror...ates/10.1/RPMS with media_info/hdlist.cz
and looking into the update manager again, I got lots of updates presented, basically, everything you find in ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror...ates/10.1/RPMS that I had older versions of installed.
(For instance, I didn't have apache2 installed, so I wasn't presented with any updates for it.)
