kernel 2.4.26 and sysfs

hi,
i'm trying to use ipw2100 with kernel 2.4.26. ipw2100 document says to mount sysfs into /sys. however, i can't seem to find where to enable sysfs into kernel. i have used menuconfig and looked in file systems. how can i build sysfs support into kernel 2.4.26?
also, if i use config to add new features that are built into the kernel, then i don't need to do make modules and make modules_install, right?
thanks.

I've poked around a little and it looks like sysfs is part of the 2.5/2.6 series kernels. According to the filesystem documentation with my kernel (2.6.3-7mdk) it's always compiled into the kernel. I don't know if anyone has backported that stuff to the 2.4 series kernels. I notice that the ipw2100 install instructions mentions both 2.4 and 2.6 series kernels -- have you tried compiling the driver? Maybe it will notice you're running a 2.4 kernel and skip the sysfs stuff.

As for the make modules and make modules_install stuff, I've never tried skipping those steps.
