HPDESKJET Printer 940c

Dear Gentlemen,

I have an HPdeskjet 940c Printer that works in Windows XP and is connected to the parallel printer port. Is there a way of making it work in Mandriva Linux. If so I would appreciate it if someone would give me the instructions of how to do this.

Thank you,

JaDan

I just installed an HP printer on my PCLinuxOS system today. PCLinuxOS is based on Mandriva. This is what I did.

Plug the printer into the computer and power on the printer. Put some paper in the paper tray. Ensure that the ink cartridges are in place in the printer.

Log on as root.

Use synaptic to install the HP printer drivers. (hplip, hplib-hpijs, hplip-hpijs-ppds, hplip-model-data)

Use synaptic to install CUPS.

Use the system administrator utility to configure the printer. This is automatic when you start the printer configuration applet.

That's it. The printer will work.

In Mandriva 2006 and 2007, connect and power up your printer with a good ink cartridge and paper, boot up your version of Mandriva, if CUPS is already installed, it will identify the printer, if not, install CUPS via URPMI, (be aware, this is a long install with lots of dependencies), restart your PC CUPS should recognize the printer, you will be given the chance to confirm or change any options or uses on the machine. After CUPS initalizes the printer, install and run the latest HPLIP applet from HP, HP Linux Inkjet Driver Project,
Chose a custom installation method to make it easier to install the 940/parallel printer.
