GIMP freefont install upsets KDE fonts
Hi,
I installed the freefonts and sharefonts for the GIMP as follows (under Mandrake 10.0 Official):
1. After decompressing the archives I logged in as root and moved the freefont and sharefont directories to /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/freefont and /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/sharefont respectively.
2. I then used the chkfontpath utility to add the fonts to the font server path:
chkfontpath -a /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/freefont
chkfontpath -a /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/sharefont
3. I then restarted the font server:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart
However now every KDE application displays window titles/menus/desktop icon names etc. with a space between each letter. For instance, instead of displaying GIMP in the title bar I have G I M P.
All KDE app menus are similarly affected. How do I get rid of this? The fonts themselves installed fine, I just need to get KDE to stop putting a space between each letter. None of the font settings under the KDE control centre have changed.
Thanks.
