Fonts in Gimp not available

I seem to be having something of a problem with using fonts in Gimp 1.2.3, under Mandrake 9.1.

I have all the right font packages installed (decoratives, etc), and a swift check in xlsfont shows that the font server has picked them up, drakfont can see them properly, and fontconfig can also see them.

However, it seems that the Gimp still can't use them. Any attempt to select any one of several fonts (mostly the ones in the fonts-decoratives package, although one out of that package DOES show up) ends with "font not available" or "this is a two bit font blahdy blah" even though those fonts ARE in the list..

OpenOffice and KWord both pick them up fine, so I'm not sure where the problem lies.. by all accounts the fonts should actually be there.

I's confused

Ashe
