Epsom Stylus C66 gutenprint

Hi,
I'm running Mandriva Linux 07 and have an Epsom Stylus C66 colour printer. It was recognised during the installation process and is listed as the default printer on my computer on Open Office. However, when I try to print using it, nothing happens.
It had been suggested on this forum a while ago that I needed to use gutenprint to get it working, but I don't know how to do this. When I look at my Mandriva package list, gutenprint seems to be installed, but when I type gutenprint at the command line, nothing happens.
Can anyone tell me how to make my printer work. I've got everything else working - an internet connection, Realplayer 10, Flash player and everything else that I need to use Linux as my stand alone computer system.I'm actually getting to grips with how to use Linux. If only I could get my printer to work. It shouldnt be rocket science I would have thought.
I've looked at gutenprint instructions, but I don't really understand them.
Can any Linux experts out there sort out this problem for me!!!

Thanks,

Tim

First, the printer manufacturer is Epson, not Epsom.

Moving on.

Check to see if your printer is out of paper or ink.

You want to get CUPS working. If it is listed as the default printer then you probably have 99.99% of the process done. Gutenprint is just the name of the drivers that CUPS uses. You should almost never have to refer to Gutenprint in a question. It is just there, in CUPS, so don't worry about that part of it.

I find that I often have to use the CUPS web interface to stop and start my printer when it stops printing. Do this.

Start your web browser from any user account.

Enter the following address:

localhost:631

You should see the CUPS print software administration web interface.

Click on "Do Administration Tasks"

Log on as root.

Look at print jobs.

If there are print jobs then delete them.

Select printers.

Click on the "Stop Printer" link for your printer.

Then click on the "Start Printer" link for your printer.

Then send a new print job from your application (Open Office dot Org or whatever).
