9.2 rc2 Cant install NVIDIA DRIVERS GRRRR! Help!

okay I went throught the how to install the NVIDIA DRIVERS IN MANDRAKE GUIDE tool by tool.Heres the problem thought the installer cannot find the Kernel-sources file asks if it wants me to locate the interface on their website i said no.

Okay said it would build it then said it could not find the headers. So I redid the install again (after it told me how it failed) said yes to letting it look at the ftp site said it could not find a match.

Looked all through my cds for the kernel-sources rpm file and it is not on there.I do not know what to do at this point but to come here and ask one of you gurus what I can do? where can I find the 9.2 rc2 kernel-sources file on the net.Etc.This os is great this is my only beef with it rite now. Please help!!

Thanks!

Try to search the package database:

urpmq -y kernel

and look for a package corresponding to your running kernel (uname -srv).

If you used the default kernel with 9.2rc2 you need to install the kernel-2.4.22.6mdk source rpm. I think it's called kernel-source-2.4.22-6mdk. You need this for Nvidia to compile with.
Go to MCC-Software Management-Install Software packages. Search for "kernel" and choose the correct package

I run mandrake9.2rc2, and also have a nvidia video card. I do the following and it works for me: goto the nvidia webpage to download the proper driver, run it under shell mode, then it'll ask you because of lack of somethind if you want to download something from a ftp site(sorry, I can't remember these names), answer no, then it'll require you to have a kernel source and ..., give it yes. So you should have this kernel source already installed. I have it, and it's in cd3(hope my memory is correct), although it's not installed by default.

an easier solution worked for me

i was having all the same problems, but after installing the kernel and restarting, the LILO gave me a boot option for "2.4.22.21" on the screen.

i selected that, logged in as root, and simply ran the installer. everything was automatic after that.

just my 2 cents-
