no, just stop using it. we don't delete accounts here if the user has made valid questions / contributions to the site.

I have never heard of anything as absurd before. Oh wait, I come to think of one! You know who had the same policy before? But changed it after massive critique from it's users?

Facebook.

But even Facebook have changed now. Of course you must allow users to have their accounts removed. I hope that you catch a misspolicy here and let acid_kewpie and me have our accounts removed from LQ.

Nope. We have never and do not delete accounts that have useful posts. Doing so creates orphaned posts (as I understand it). If you really really want to leave and can't trust your self not to log back in, follow these instructions:
  1. go to your profile and change your email options to ensure you get no notification of posts or community bulletins.
  2. change your password to something long, random, forgettable and unrecoverable.
  3. in your browser, remove all cookies and user account settings for LQ.
  4. delete LQ from your bookmarks.
  5. forget all about us.

Not deleting your account is no infringement of your rights and we don't bother people who haven't logged in or posted for a long time. We won't bother you and you don't have to worry about us!

In fact, the only accounts that get deleted are spammers and people who create an account, never post and don't log in for a long time - and the latter lose their accounts through database pruning.

Most forums I've used so far don't allow deletion of accounts on request. It isn't absurd. Locking accounts on user request could make sense (although XavierP already described valid alternative), but not deleting. If your posts have personal data you'd like to remove, you can edit them.
