Erased old account for new one; forgot to give admin priv to new account.

On a laptop I recently sold, I erased the old account and made a new one. But for the new one, I forgot to give admin privileges. (i.e. Account Settings -> User Priv. -> "Administer the System")

Now I can't login as root from login screen, (only through one of the virtual terminals) or admin the system from my new account. Since I can login through the virtual terminal, how would I go about changing the new user account to have admin privileges?

Hi,
if you really can login as root - from any terminal - you can run

Code:

adduser $(USER) adm 
adduser $(USER) admin

to add the $(USER) to the groups adm and admin. I am pretty sure that one of these groups is the Ubuntu admin group. I think the admin group is the correct one.
If you can not login as root, you have to work with a boot CD - but this would be topic of another posting.
