Question Linuxquestions.org incorrectly says I've posted, but haven't...

Hello! I have a very minor problem that's really not more than a slight nuisance. Whenever I start a thread, when it has no replies, and I go to check my subscribed threads the next day, I see that the title is bold sometimes, and it says the last post was at an absurd time (2:33 AM, for example) but I in fact only posted the first post on the thread because I started it, and far earlier (3 days, usually) and at a more reasonable time than it says.

Why is this happening exactly?

I think the following is happening:
LQ "auto bumps" zero-reply threads for three days. So it gets a status of "It's "new", it's unread, it should be at the top of the list, somebody read it and reply to it" (so don't bump your own thread - many people regularly review the zero-reply threads)
.
If the time is wrong, it may be because you haven't logged in.

If this doesn't answer your Q's, ask for this thread to be moved to "LQ Suggestions & Feedback" where Jeremy may be able to help.

// FWIW I already requested this thread be moved there.

Thanks for the explanation. I have observed many times what the OP asked about (usually with other people's posts) and have just scratched my head. I was unaware of the autobump feature.

Although I am completely baffled about what you are trying to say here.

If the time is wrong, it may be because you haven't logged in..... to LQ:

Posting times are adjusted to your local time, but only if you have logged in to LQ - Otherwise LQ doesn't know who, or where you are, and you'll get LQ's local time displayed instead.

When you are logged in the time function checks the setting in your profile and adjusts the time shown to be your own timezone. If you are not logged in, the time shown is LQ time, which is Buffalo time, IIRC.

Thnaks for the explanations about the fact that logging in customizes the time for your time zone. Looking for something difficult and subtle, I missed the obvious!

To be honest, until your post I hadn't ever thought about it - so don't feel bad
