Is it possible to run a vote among all LQ members about their most preferred display manager?
Hi Everyone!
I have used Debian Potato, Stretch, Squeeze, Lenny, Etch, Sarge, Wheezy, Jessie, and now Buster. I have also used three display managers. KDM, GDM, and Lightdm.
So just wondering is it possible to put a voting system up and running for a couple of days to see, among all LQ members who use which display managers the most?
For me, Lightdm is a dream come true for me. I am super enthusiastic about Xfce and Lightdm's lightweight component factor and super fast loading time. No offense to anybody. It's just my personal opinion. I know GDM and KDM have their own merit points (in fact I used them extensively) but personally I like Lightdm. I have a USB expansion drive and still, I am satisfied. Thank you all.

I'm another fan of LightDM and it, along with XFCE, has been my choice for years.
I have nothing against the other DMs, and have used them sometimes, but LightDM just does the job well.
LXDM is also good, very lightweight. I personally do not use a display manager but my favorite is LXDM actually. LightDM also works well and if given a choice, I would use either of those 2. The few times I have used Plasma, SDDM also seems to work well. GDM is my least favorite of all.
My second computer had AMD Athlon 3400+ (AMD64) processor and Debian Sarge on it. GDM was fine.
When I upgraded to Debian Lenny GDM was taking up too much resource. I also tried remotely connecting to X-server-Xorg and desktoping from a different Linux computer. It worked but wasn't intuitive and easy. Besides, when I installed another desktop environment it couldn't recognize it or detect it. I had to manually add the entry.
I tried the KDE display manager. At that time it was called KDM. But it was written with the Gtk-C++ port. I think. I am not hundred percent sure. So was taking a lot of resources too. More than GDM.
Now with LightDM, I am fully satisfied with my Lenovo laptop.
