Is acid-kewpie trying to push people away from this site.

I'm sorry but I do believe acid_kewpie is being a little short with some of these posts. Now sure some of the posts in the General forum have been a bit "out there" but my post at

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...aim+and+debian

and Grim Reaper's post at

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...aim+and+debian

received responces from kewpie that I feel were quite unneccessary. Sure I could be guilty of posting a similar post but when I did the search Grim hadn't posted his yet and my browser sat while I was at work until I posted my message. Either way both posts were treated very corsely. Now I've read quite a few posts on here that went on just about people talking about there experiences and other general stuff without actually asking a question and to have my and Grim's posts get this kind of treatment is really uncalled for. I am far from a newb (though I am new here) and I'd expect a little more descent responces from a mod here. I mean, sure cutting some of the flame wars in the General forum probably is a good idea sticking to the theme of this board but come on, aren't we pushing it a little with these two posts? I read the rules and one that I feel is more important is

Do not post if you do not have anything constructive to say in the post.

As I was telling kewpie, this is typical of the kind of responce that watts was giving at JL before everyone started to jump ship. I was very pleased to see the great way some of us refugees were being treated when we came over but this kind of treatment makes me think twice. I really hope this isn't the status-quo for treatment on this board. When legitimate posts are being "shot down" something it wrong.

I'd be surprised if acid will even respond to your cries.

They're moderators and they were chosen by the owner of the website. And that's all really. If you don't like them, well you won't be able to overthrow them. So live with it. Acid_kewpie has a sense of humour and he can certainly be reasoned with if you really think your post is legitimate for this site.

edit:

Technical people are notoriously bad at getting on with other technical people. Because people have egos and machines don't. But hey, you've been given the power of anonymity - I assume Cage47 is not your real name - so don't worry about it. This site has a very short memory. Search on any topic and you'll see the same thing come up week after week and members rarely refer to past posts to prove a point or for any other reason.

So lets move on. You'll be ready for him next time, right? Right.

Bert

Cage47, you seem to be trying to get annoyed about nothing. I was compeltely polite in your gaim thread, and you appear to simply want to get annoyed just because i asked if there was a particular reason for the question. there was, but you didn't actually say so... that's a good reason to ask that question, but you never said that in your original post. and then decided to try to persecute me. I'm would be quite confident that 9 / 10 other people who might read your thread would say it was absolutely fine.

In the other thread, you have quite clearly only posted there to try to make someone else complain, and to try to prove a point to anyone who might look.

You have only made a few posts her, and this site is not a LNO clone, this site has been running fine for a long time, and I would suggest that you are not in a position to demand changes.

In addition to this, issues such as this should be directed privately to moderators or jeremy himself, not in public. thanks.

That's interesting. Thanks! I'll give it a go. I've been talking to some folks about a support engineer position and they're still deliberating. They said they can give me Linux contract work but F/T - well I don't know yet.

I'll let the board know when I get something.

I addressed the situation in the original thread. If you have any questions or need clarification feel free to either post here or contact me directly. Thanks.

It may appear that he is trying to push people away. However, I think it's simply a communication problem between users. He is aiding you and others when you post your questions in making the first post a more in depth and all inclusive post. So the thread doesn't get 25 posts down before all the information is out and the problem can then be identified.

The assertiveness/abruptness in the way he portrays this to users is I think what causes the misconception that he is being rude. It's the taking a step back, looking the post over for what he's asking for and seeing where he is coming from that makes you able to see this.

AFAIK and can tell, Acid is not out to rid LQ of all it's users (what good would that do anyone?), so knowing that, you may be able to see a little bit better why he posts as he does, and why it's relevant most of the time when he asks these questions. He's not attacking you, he's assisting you assertively

Cool

This is all I'll post on this. At the first two responces I was only a little set off but after three times saying that this was a legitimate question I was a little perterbed to still be told that my question was being criticized. And I have no problem donning the asbestos underoos against a flame so I have no problems taking flak but this was a reasonable request and to have to put back on me to make it legitimate was what irked me. I've done my part on other boards to help out and I've already answered a few q's here so I hoped not to see one of the few times I had a legiimtate question stuffed like that. I'll just let it go at that and hopefully this won't come up again. I don't have questions often and when I do I'll have good reasons for them. This time I was trying to save myself a couple hours of grief if someone has already found a work around.

Oh don't worry Bert, Cage is acutally my old nick name.

Keith James --> KJ --> Cage (get it? )

I'll remain in the fold and as jeremy said it's been dealt with and hopefully this won't be an issue again.

It was actually seeing my post and one related to it getting similar treatment that really set me off, but enough...herring for all and now on to my rebuilt thinkpad. Hasta Linguini and be back tomorrow.

I can also say that sometimes his posts seem rude, but really they are just blunt. What do you expect... he is not an American

Trust me, acid is fine. He has smacked me around a few times for doing some silly posts, and it is no big deal. He means well, and has gone out of his way to help others. Keep in mind that he does this free of charge, and has a great high speed connection directly to this site, second only to Trickys :P He is really good at Linux and is one of our best moderators, and he puts up with a lot. If he was a not good guy he and I would be at each others throats constantly.

BTW- I am not trying to get on your case "cage47", but you really should not post issues like this in a forum board. Issue an email o Jeremy and to acid about your problem. That is a professional way to handle problems between board members.

hah, i've only ever "smacked you around" on the posts that you decided to start with something like "I'm being really really stupid here...." or something, I'd never offend a "Lady" without a very clear invite to do so! And FYI, i've made more posts than TK, for similar reasons as you, Ms shadow_whacker.
