Getting a Green Light in Azureus

More than slightly embarrassed by this.

I know zip about Linux. Been using Suse 10 for 3 days, two days of which were spent getting nowhere after a corrupted initial installation. Re-installed it all this morning and it's starting to come together.

Downloaded Azureus. Had the dreaded yellow light and crappy DL speeds of 3-4K. Googled for possible solutions. They all looked daunting, to say the least. I knew my router was configured properly because I'd been using Azureus under Win XP for a long while. So, I assumed it was only the SuSe10 firewall getting in the way.

Here's what I did. May not be "correct". may have some fuming at my stupidity (like I said, I know absolutely zip) but it worked like a charm.

Ran YasT.

Chose "Security and Users" from left-hand panel.

Chose "Firewall". On "Firewall Configuration: Start Up" page chose "Allowed Services" on the left panel. Added DHCP Client, DHCP Server and DNS Server.

Chose "Advanced Option" at bottom of the page. Up came a box with "Additional Allowed Ports".

Added the Azureus port I use in both TCP and UDP boxes (if you use the default 6881 port, try that). Hit OK. Closed all the other boxes et voila! Instant green light in Az.

No idea if this will work for anyone else but it did the trick for me.

This helped me, thanks!
I had opened the ports on the firewall, but only the TCP.
Opening the UDP ports brought pleasure back to my downloading =)

I didn't add DHCP or DNS Server settings to the Firewall, I wouldn't expect this to help Azureus directly.
