Almost had to format but.......

I installed a kernel update (not 2.6) and rebooted then got a black screen after LIlo and everytime I rebooted the same thing. I had no idea what to do so after posting my problem in the slack forum I ended up getting this reply from Linfreak.

Boot from the slack cd then at the command prompt type:
mkdir /slack
mount /dev [root partition] /slack
chroot /slack
lilo
then reboot

I did not know waht to do and This saved my install.
Thanks Linfreak and LinuxQuestions.org

Well why dont u compile ur own kernel instead of binary packages.
U can optimise the kernel for ur machine.
And thus make it a bit faster.

I dont know much about Linux except that It runs much better than windows and everytime I try to upgrade or change the way something works in Linux I end up screwing things up so I think ill just leave it alone. Except for security ussues, im happy with the way it is.
