Hello, everybody. I have just been introduced to Linux through a friend in New Zealand. I run Slackware 10, and, so far, it has been a rather steep learning curve. I have no experience in this type of OS as have used Windows most of my life, except back in the very early days of personal computers when I had a Commodore 64 - actually I still have it,I just don't use it. I am looking forward to getting to know you and to "sip from your cup of wisdom" (Yes, I am a writer & <place cries of horror here> a poet, Don't worry it isn't catching.) I have no background in tweaking a computer and I expect my questions may seem very simple, but I have found that what *everybody* knows is often the very thing a newcomer does not. At any rate I'm very excited to have found this forum(s) and thank you all for your warm welcome.

Welcome to LQ! Just remember to search before posting questions because most of the time you will find your answer immediately rather than having to sit waiting hours for a solution.
Thank you all for your helpful hints and the info on the writing forums. It's nice to know I am not the only writer out there. You can be sure that I have noted your advice and will make good use of it.
Note to KV:
I said I still had my very ancient Commodore 64. I did *not* say I've been using it. Thanx for all the other help .
