hello all,

I'm looking for a stable linux that takes a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Any recommendations?

Opinions probably vary on this but I think Debian (Stable) might be a good one to try.

Hi and Welcome to LQ!

"LINUX"!

The OS in general for #1. Recommend you try some distributions out via virtual machine, or live boot to see what you prefer. It may be a very subjective question, or you may be a very flexible person as far as choices so it's really up to you to make your determination. Also depends a lot on whether you want a desktop, just the command line, if you wish to configure a server, or some other concentrations.

Just a linux desktop in a virtual machine will do for now.
