OK I have to admit this conversion is not due to any particular dissatisfaction with The Redmond Mob, it's just that I want to learn more about Java and LINUX. My current client is going heavy on LINUX via the IBM offerings, and I'm working on a Java product. My coding background is C on a proprietary system and C++ using Visual Studio 6.0.
So I've dual booted my laptop with RedHat Enterprise LINUX - Workstation (See, I just can't stop paying for software! ), updated via RedHat Network, dowloaded Eclipse 3.0 and I'm off! So far so good. A few irritants but nothing too dramatic. My goal is to provide some security contributions to an open source project within the next 12 months, possibly around the Java wrappers to the cryptoki C source files. We'll see.
**edit** I really don't care about makin' money right now.**edit** I just wanna make some nice GUI stuff without having to go to QT, then kdevelop, and the console... I think i'll use glade...
or i'll wait a few months for my java courses...
