Ok.

Thanks.

I think I found the card. this one right? netgear

I noticed though that Linux isn't listed in the OSs supported...

I need to try and find a list of cheap cards. Though $53.00 isn't bad. Maybe I will pick this up. This card will work both in Windows and Linux? That'd be awesome! Two Weeks and I will be exiting my novell classes and entering Linux Intro and then Linux Admin 10 weeks later. YAY!

Like inode said, the older card is prism2, there are 3 drivers under Linux for it.

The newer card is Broadcom, there are NO linux drivers for it, but go figure a company called www.linuxant.com built a wrapper to make the windows driver work. Or more to the point, the linuxant driver datamines the windows driver on the fly.

/sbin/lspci will either mention Harris Prism or Broadcom...

Cheers,

These drivers from wlan.org will work with any distribution right?

I have RH9 right now, but will switch to Suse Pro (9) in one week when I enter my Linux class at college...

This is sort of a tangent, but in perusing the shelves of a local computer parts store today I noticed that Linksys is no longer printing the version number on the box for these devices. It is not bad enough that the same model can have 5 or 6 VERY different versions, but without marking them as such even an educated buyer is at a disadvantage.

SuSe, unlike RedHat has the linux-wlan-ng drivers pre-packaged with the distro, so when you switch to SuSe, it should... theoretically, work out of the box.

If you still have that WMP-11 box, look under the big bar code all the way
down, right hand lower corner, and look at the teeny-tiny print.
Mine says WMP11 v4-PKG-30625C.
If that matches yours, you have a Version 4, which means you've
had such trouble because the chipset in your card is made by
a company called InProcomm in Taiwan. www.inprocomm.com.tw
The chipset model number is IPN2120.
When you did a "lspci" you should have spotted a line which
identified an Unknown vendor's ethernet card with the id of
17fe:2120 which will be a definite proof of the InProcomm chipset.
To my utter delight and relief, I now have a working WMP11 v4.

After contacting Marc Boucher at Linuxant, he responded with an offer to get his
driver solution "driverloader" to work on this newer InProComm IPN2120 chipset
found in Linksys WMP11 version 4 Wireless-B PCI Adapters.
He did in fact produce for me a working solution. I am now connected using
his driver and am pleased to announce to the wider Linux community who
own the same card that they can now obtain working Linux drivers from
www.linuxant.com. Three cheers for Linuxant and Marc Boucher.
A very helpful gentleman. For folks with other cards and no working drivers,
I would suggest you appeal to him and see if he has time to work a solution
for you.
Now I can finally take up this wire draped across my floor!
