If you still have that WMP-11 box, look under the big bar code all the way
down, right hand lower corner, and look at the teeny-tiny print.
Mine says WMP11 v4-PKG-30625C.
If that matches yours, you have a Version 4, which means you've
had such trouble because the chipset in your card is made by
a company called InProcomm in Taiwan.
www.inprocomm.com.tw
The chipset model number is IPN2120.
When you did a "lspci" you should have spotted a line which
identified an Unknown vendor's ethernet card with the id of
17fe:2120 which will be a definite proof of the InProcomm chipset.
To my utter delight and relief, I now have a working WMP11 v4.
After contacting Marc Boucher at Linuxant, he responded with an offer to get his
driver solution "driverloader" to work on this newer InProComm IPN2120 chipset
found in Linksys WMP11 version 4 Wireless-B PCI Adapters.
He did in fact produce for me a working solution. I am now connected using
his driver and am pleased to announce to the wider Linux community who
own the same card that they can now obtain working Linux drivers from
www.linuxant.com. Three cheers for Linuxant and Marc Boucher.
A very helpful gentleman. For folks with other cards and no working drivers,
I would suggest you appeal to him and see if he has time to work a solution
for you.
Now I can finally take up this wire draped across my floor!
