Linksys WMP11
Does anyone know if they've made a driver for the newer versions of the WMP11 wireless card? Thanks

v2.7 of the WMP11 is based on the broadcom chipset which is unsupported by linux. However, you can use proprieraty drivers from www.linuxant.com. It has a 30-day trial.
AFAIK, other versions of the WMP11 are supported.

Better solution is here: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/
I have no problems with Linuxants work, I just think $20 for an addon driver for a $40 card is a bit much, especially as it only covers a year's service. Anyway, the README is easy enough to understand and good for newbies as well as veterens.
One thing to keep in mind, you don't want any internet services (browsers, etc.) loading before the drivers are loaded. A minor bug, perhaps worked out now, but relevant.

Hi,
I bought a WMP11 and am also having problems getting Linux to see it.
The card says on it: "IC: 3839A-WMP11V4"
I downloaded what I believe are the correct RPMs from linux-wlan-ng
and installed them, then modifed the /etc/wlan.conf. When I do the rpm install, it modifies /etc/modules.conf to include a 'wlan0' alias. However,
I get errors to the effect that it cannot find the device. (I could post those errors if that would be helpful.)
Please help me if you can;
- is this a problem with a new version of the wmp11 "v2.7" as described above? How would I check?
- if not, what are some reasonable ways to debug this issue with the device not being found?
- How do I verify that I in fact have the correct RPMs? I am leery of rebuilding the kernel. I am fuzzy about the kernel version VS red hat version, and which versions of the RPMs I need. My uname -a returns something that says i386, though I know I have an Athlon processor; this seems suspect to me.
THANKS THANKS THANKS for any help you can offer.

Just some more info, if anyone cares to look at it;
my uname -a returns
2.4.20-20.7 i686 unknown
which, as I said, is a mystery to me, as I know there is an Athlon in the box, because I put it there.
When I do "ifup wlan0" I get back
prism2_pci device does not seem to be present, delaying wlan0 initialization.
The RPMs I am using are;
kernel-wlan-ng-0.1.15-6.athlon.rpm
kernel-wlan-ng-modules-rh73.3-0.1.15-6.athlon.rpm
kernel-wlan-ng-pci-0.1.15-6.athlon.rpm
These rpms all install cleanly, except at the end of the last, it warns me about needing to update /etc/wlan.conf, it modifies /etc/modules.conf to include the wlan0 alias, and then it says;
Starting WLAN Devices: wlanctl-ng: No such device.
Again, I want to thank anyone who can give me a shove in the right direction.

This may not solve your problem completely, but reading the INSTALL
file on ndiswrapper, it says you must minimally have kernel version
2.4.23 or 2.6.0, which are both later versions than your info indicates.
Gotta update your kernel first, it seems. I'm faced with the same problem.

WMP11V4
For chrisrose, and all other unfortunate people who have recently purchased newer
Linksys WMP11V4, meaning version 4 cards, they use a IPN2120 chipset made
by InProComm and there are NO driver solutions currently working out there for
Linux. I've now tried three possibles, linux-wlan-ng, ndiswrapper, and linuxant.
None are able to identify and configure this chipset.
We're hosed.

Great new for Linksys WMP11 v4 owners
After contacting Marc Boucher at Linuxant, he responded with an offer to get his
driver solution "driverloader" to work on this newer InProComm IPN2120 chipset
found in Linksys WMP11 version 4 Wireless-B PCI Adapters.
He did in fact produce for me a working solution. I am now connected using
his driver and am pleased to announce to the wider Linux community who
own the same card that they can now obtain working Linux drivers from
www.linuxant.com. Three cheers for Linuxant and Marc Boucher.
A very helpful gentleman. For folks with other cards and no working drivers,
I would suggest you appeal to him and see if he has time to work a solution
for you.
Now I can finally take up this wire draped across my floor!

Hrm
I don't know if there are any new solutions, but i'm using Fedora Core 2 with a kernel configured with 16K Stacks, and the 4G patch removed, although the driver loads correctly and all things seem to look swell until i try to set the ESSID. I've tried the ndiswrapper list, but to no avail. Although, the NDISwrapper site says that the chipset is supported. And the linuxant driver doesn't even detect the card.

What to download...
This has been the most hopeful thread on the Internet in my efforts to get my Linksys WMP11 v4 w/INPROCONN chipset working. Here is what I have learned:
As of 22 Sept 2004, there is still no open source, and free driver available to make it work on linux.
Linuxant does have a working solution. Download their software and then download the following:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/wmp11_v4_dr.zip
That zip file contains the drivers you need. I downloaded every other conceivable driver package (about 8 all together), naturally the last one you download has what you need.
As for my long term solution, I am evaluating the Linuxant driver solution for 30 days, and I just purchased a compatible Netgear MA311 card from eBay. Linuxant works, but it seems wrong to pay for *anything* in linux. So I would rather spend $20 on a refurbished card that works as opposed to a WINDOWS driver for crying out loud. Yikes... when Linux users start to rely on Windows drivers, what has the world come to. ;-) j/k

ok, i dont have linux yet, but im looking into hardware compatibility and found out the wmp11 isnt supported, i however found one site that says
"I am writing primarily to say "it works!" with my Linksys WMP11 v2.7 (not yet on the supported list). I bought this thing just after the WMP11 line switched to the Broadcom chipset, and it's been collecting dust since then. It is a little old, but I'm glad to be able to use it!"
the url for said site is:

For those of you still having trouble with your network cards, all I can say is that if you're desperate enough to want to get them working, give the folks at Linuxant.com a try. More than simply downloading their driver, their support personnel are excellent helpers. If you happen to have a board that won't work with their drivers currently, my experience was that they worked with me to get their driver working.
I know this is a bitter pill for Linux purists, but if it's a question of getting on line or not, well, the answer was too obvious for me.
To look at it another way, if you had a M$ system and you needed something to make it work, you would not hesitate to spend a paltry 20 bucks.
Hope this doesn't spawn a flame war - I certainly did not intend to.

I have the linksys wmp11 v4. Don't pay $20 for a solution. ndiswrapper works.
I've got the 2.4.24 kernel and ndiswrapper 0.12 on slackware 10.0
after installing ndiswrapper, use the command
'ndiswrapper -f INF FILE' (replacing INF FILE with the name of the inf file).
make sure you keep all the inf, and sys files in the same folder.
Important: wmp11 v4 requires all 3 INF files loaded to work. Load them all.
After installing the drivers make sure that they are recognized by using the 'ndiswrapper -l' command.
2 divers should return with
'(driver name) is present'
and the third driver should return
'(driver name) is present. hardware is present'
Now that you've loaded your drivers into ndiswrapper. You must load the ndiswrapper module. Use this command.
'modprobe ndiswrapper'
When you see that all drivers are loaded use iwconfig to see which interface your wireless is (wlan0, eth0). Use ifconfig to make sure that your wireless interface is up and running. if you don't see it when you type ifconfig, type this command.
'ifconfig wlan0 up' (replacing wlan0 with your interface).
If you don't get an ip address right away you must request one from the dhcp. the command on slackware is
'dhcpcd wlan0' (replacing wlan0 with your interface).
consult your manuals for the proper command.
hope this makes sense. any other questions, ask away
-brandon

Totally agree with what brandonloserkid posted above.
I have just installed a Debian Sarge with the latest available Kernel.
The ndiswrapper is already available on debian mirrors via "apt" or any graphical tool based on apt (such as synaptic).
Then, follow the step-by-step instructions provided at the ndiswrapper site, and specific to the Debian distro (see http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/p...allDebianSarge ). . Each distro has its own dedicated installation set...
As posted above, install all three INF files repeating the "ndiswrapper -l" command with each INF file. Do not forget to keep all the other files in the same directory than the one containing the INF files.
In addition to that, do not forget the "ndiswrapper -m" command. This is not specified in the ndiswrapper site.
These drivers are working correctly.
The ndiswrapper site also specifies how to configure your wlan0 interface permanently.
Hope this helps
