i'm running DSL from a usb drive on an old thinkpad with a dead hard drive. i cant get on my home WPA network and I've been at it for weeks now. the network card is a linksys wpc11v4. i've got the xp driver and am using ndiswrapper, i *think* correctly.
this didnt work so i've been trying all kinds of different things in the wpa_supplicant.conf file, then running those last 3 commands again. Do I have to reboot inbetween making changes to wpa_supplicant.conf?
i've tried having the file say:
network={
ssid="name_of _my_network"
# key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
# proto=wpa
# pairwise=TKIP
psk="my_password"
}
or just commenting out key_mgmt or pairwise or proto
i tried running
$ wpa_password my_network my_password
and using the psk that was retuned in the wpa_supplicant.conf instead of my_password. i also tried using it with all the comobs above of wpa_supplicant.conf
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it

I would eleminate the wpa for now. Turn off all security from wep, wpa, mac and ip filtering. Then try connecting with a basic setup. If that works then you can start enabling security. It is easier to start as basic as possible. See if it can even get on.

rmdir[ctrl_interface]: Bad Address
Would I need to set up wext before running
wpa_supplicant -Bdd -Dwext -i wlan0 -c wpa_supplicant.conf
similar to the way ndiswrapper needed to be loaded?
Brian1: I'd love to but I cant. The wireless network is for my whole apartment building. I dont know how to go about turning off security and it would mess everyone else up if I did.

I would like to see you make the connection as simply as possible. Goto a friends or family house that has a wireless connection. Have them disable any security and then try making a dynamic connection. If that works then the ndiswrapper is working over all. That is my only way I would do it. Start from the begiining.
