Xine problems with mov files

I'm getting an error when playing mov files. The video seems to play fine but the audio is about 5 seconds ahead of the video. Also when I try to jump ahead in the video xine starts dumping this error over and over:

Obtained 2 stack frames.
/usr/lib/libxine.so.1(xine_print_trace+0x28)
audio_alsa_out:write:BAD STATE2, state = 0, going to try XRUN
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c (467): snd_pcm_hw_prepare SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_PREPARE failed: File descripter in bad state
audio_alsa_out: assertion 0 failed. xrun: prepare error: File descriptor in bad state

anyone run into this before?

I compiled most (not all) of the libraries for xine and alsa with optimization.... could that be causing problems?

thanks in advance,
jpbarto

it all depends on the encoding of the video - have you tried mplayer with the qt codecs?

there are instructions on my guide on how to install mplayer, you didn't mention which distro you are using which is really important to know (unless I missed it) so it's hard to help more than that.

the guide is in my signature below - check out the software page.
