XFree86 problem

...Strange problem with XFree86

When I login as root and I try to start startx, it fails with the message:
Code:
Fatal Server Error:
Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
Please report problems to xfree86 at xfree86.org.

giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): server error.
Strange part is that yesterday, all was working fine when I tried at a friend's place.

When I look into /var/log, I cannot see the XFree86.0.log file, however I assume it must be there since when I type half of the filename and then press tab, it completes the filename. However, it does not show up with "ls -al" (all this as root).

When try to make manually the XFree86.0.log file, the shell returns:
Code:
linux:/var/log # touch XFree86.0.log
touch: cannot touch 'XFree86.0.log': Input/Output error
linux:/var/log #
Any ideas or suggestions on what is wrong here?

I'm having the same problem and I haven't really been able to find any info on what the story is. I'll keep you posted on any progress I make and I hope you'll do the same.

Cheers,

Ken
