Question Will ATI Radeon 8500 XFree86 4.2 driver work with Xfree86 4.3?

Will ATI Radeon 8500 XFree86 4.2 driver (from their web sight) work with Xfree86 4.3 from the standard Mandrake 9.1 install. I need to do something 'cause my graphics performance is boll@#ks!!! I'm also a newbie and need help with any suggestions.

You didn't install the developmental packages? As root, command:
urpmi gcc
An Introduction to the Midnight Commander. You can install it by commanding:
urpmi mc
