Whats the best HTPC solution?

Looking for something that could play DivX and Xvid and internet streams with an easy to use interface on TV and not keyboard/mouse demanding.
Also needs to have CD/DVD support from the interface.
I have a wireless keyboard with a remote which is also on the keyboard interface (remote is part of the keyboard), on the ps/1 interface.
I don't need recording functionality, I don't think MythTV does what I need.
Any suggestions?

You could have a look at GeexBox. It is a very lightweight media player, which can run off a live CD, so is very easy to try out.

That looks interesting, I might consider that later, but unfortunately as I didn't mention I have to run it on my own kernel on the operating system I built. I could probably dissect this thing but it would be nice if the media player interface was a separate piece of software, meaning I could build it on any system.
I am stuck with 2.4 kernel so that too might be a problem.
