What distro to use for 1gig Flash USB?

I have recently purchased a 1 gig thumb drive. It is my hope that I can turn it into a fully functional toolkit. I thought to start from Knoppix-STD or PHLAK but I thought it would be wise to ask here befor commiting any ammount of time to it. Iv searched on google for a few hours looking for advice on this topic, but no use.

Id like it to include all the usual security tools, and still have the space to use Wine to run the windows tools linux doesent have. Im also not sure how much space to leave open after all the software is on there, or will that matter much?

If anyone could tell me what the best distro to start from I would really appreciate it. I wasent sure if it would be good to start from Knoppix-STD and just update all the programs or start from something like Damn Small Linux, and install everything I need manually. Im decent with linux, I got slackware/suse9.2 working on this machine, so I can get it working once I know what flavor to use.

Thanks for your time.

I've never used it personally but it may be worth your while to check out Feather Linux.

I have a smaller size thumb drive that works on all of the distro that I have tried.

I created a "thumb" directory under the mnt or media directory:

"mount /dev/sda1 /media/thumb" (run as root)
