Web Cam Software


Yesterday was my birthday
and I was given a Microsoft LiveCam
and they wouldn't give me the recipt so I could take it back
so I am Kind of stuck with it
any ideas?????

well, there may be different versions of this cam out there. First check what its USB id's are (as root, do "lsusb" and you see a list of attached USB devices). See if the cam has something like

045e:00f5

or so. There are a few variants.

There is a driver called sn9c102. I don't have the cam myself, but I helped a colleague with it and we got some grainy video out of it. A tell-tale sign is if a /dev/video0 device file appears when you load the driver. Any video application (xawtv, mplayer, skype when you use a later version, etc) will show you some video.

Give it a shot. Hope it helps.
