I am an absolute newbie to Linux, but want to move from Windows and trying to learn....
I recently installed Mandriva 2006 and generally all is working.
However I can't see any streaming video in Firefox.
For example, when trying to watch video on cnn.com I get a popup that tells me you need Windows Media Player.
The Windows Media Player site tells me there is no Linux version (could have expected that....)
On my own website, where I show some family videos using wvx, I also get an announcement that a plugin is missing, and when I click it, I get the answer that no suitable plugins were found....
How do I see streaming video in wmv and wvx in Firefox?
I read on several places about Mplayer, but as a standalone player to watch movies etc. Those kind of programs already exist in Mandriva 2006.
I need a plugin for Firefox, capable of showing streaming wvx and wmv. (AND instructions of how to install such a thing....!!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (And please don't send RTFM, if I would know where to find the manualon this topic I would have read it.....)
