How can I watch *.wmv files?


How can I watch *.wmv files? I tried xine and totem - it said that such codec is unsupported (wmvdmod.dll).

And I didn't find mplayer installed

Xine downloaded from here and the codecs work on my computer.

But (since I'm very egoistic ) 8MB... The last such big files were opera7.54 and firefox1.
If somebody knows smth smaller... plz, post here

totem uses xine-lib, so changing between the two may not really be helpful to you. All you may need from the site mentioned above are the win32 codecs if you have xine or totem installed. I don't think you will get them in a smaller package from any other site coz the ones on mplayers site are almost 9 - 10 megabytes.

Actually, all you need to do is download the 'essential codecs package' from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html, and put all the files contained within in /usr/lib/win32 .

Still an ~8mb download, though. You could try hunting for just a copy of wmvdmod.dll , and just installing that (to the same place), but you'd soon come across some other file that you need a codec for, so you're probably best off just putting up with the 8MiB download, I'm afraid.
