VMware and Modem

Hi.

I have a 56k dial-up modem, and naturally, it doesn't work in Linux. I've installed Windows XP through VMwareWorkstation. I wish to use my dial-up modem inside Windows XP, and since the modem can't be installed in Linux, bridged networking doesn't work. Is there a way to get the installation to detect it?

You can't, Linux has to reconize the modem before you can use it with VMware. Now your modem may or may not be reconized in Linux but since you have not stated which one it is, it is really hard to provide anything other then some general help.

What does the following typed command (from the console or xterm session) show, if anything?

/sbin/lspci -v | grep Modem
