Debug Linux kernel in vmware (two machines in vmware)??

I m debugging linux kernel (2.6.7) in vmware. Both host and target are using kgdb pactch and installed in vmware.
Now I boot up both machine and log into host to link gdb to target machine. After the link is established, I let the target machine continues booting to login page by issuing a "c" in gdb. However, when the target machine reaches the login page, my keyboard doesn't seem do work. Hence I can't login and run certain user program on target machine...

Does anyone who happened to encouter the same problem could help me on this?
or maybe a link to the solution would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all,
James
