But also: users should not be running with administrative privileges on any machine, and you should not be running a Windows version old-enough not to recognize and enforce Administrator vs. Limited User status.

Yes, I agree. Problem is that the machine is connected some other instrument - a part of big whole system. It is set up by manufacturer!!
