transcode broken pipes

I've been having trouble converting vobs to AVIs recently. I've been experimenting the past few days trying to get things synched up correctly. Things worked fine then. Now, I keep getting segfaults and/or broken pipes with the same files. I even reinstalled the software but that didn't work. Could it be a heat issue?

Code:
transcode v1.0.0 (C) 2001-2003 Thomas Oestreich, 2003-2004 T. Bitterberg
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.9 for DVD access

any ideas? I do own the DVDs and I am just experimenting. The worst that could happen is that they'll end up on my hard drive like the music from my CDs not being shared on the Internet (if that's what you're all wondering).

I'm a stickler for quality. Almost all my music are encoded in the lossless FLAC format (anyone know of a lossless video codec?). I would be happy with plain VOBs if I had more hard drive space.

Either way, something that used to work doesn't and I'd like some help determining what happened.
