Timidity Error "couldnt open output device"


Hi,
I installed timidity++2.13.0 from source i m getting the error : Could'nt open output device. Please help!!

is your sound system ok?

You may need to adjust the configs

Which Linux distribution?

i m using fedora 6 and yeah sound system is fine i have mplayer installed and i can listen to songs alsamixer is working. I guess one calls it "fine "
Please help i need to get tuxguitar working and thus i need timidity up and working.

I don't have experience with Fedora, but a quick search turned this up:

Distros are pretty stupid in not patching programs like timidity to use ALSA by *default*. Taking a look at Fedora, its timidity contains TiMidity++-2.13.2-libao-first.patch, which defaults to pulseaudio. Ho hum, they get half a point for trying, although pulseaudio should have been thrown out of the distro

fedora 6 is too old and unsupported, consider installing Fedora 12
