USB Printer "Unable to open device" Error

Hi,

I'm running SLED 10 with all updates.

I'm trying to use a local USB Cannon ip4000 printer and after the "Wizard" completed I now got this error when trying to print:

Paused: Unable to open device "hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_1093_23CAA4_if0_printer_noserial": Permission denied

I have chmoded /dev/null to 666 and even tried 777 for kicks....... to no avail. Any ideas on this error ?

/dev/null is not your printer.

can you setup/use the printer as root?

sounds like you need to find the /dev/node for your printer and chmod it...

Nope, logged in as ROOT and same error...... any help/fix would be great.

I can't believe that simple printing is such a pain in the ass. Novell ? how bout some better printer support !
