syslog event generator

Hi,
I'm running quite a few RH servers. I'm consolidating the syslog data onto one server for easier management using syslog-ng on the one logging server only. To finalize the process I need to generate syslog events for: Emergency, Alert, Critical, Error and Warning. Currently I'm only receiving Info events.
I've heard of syslog event generators but was not able to find anything to help out via google.
How can I manually or programatically generate these events?

Thanks,
Greg / DotHQ

10 seconds poking on my fc5 box shows a tool called "logger" as one way to do this.
