Question SUSE 8 on Compaq Proliant 1600

Hi!

I'm trying to install a Suse 8 dist onto a Compaq Proliant 1600 Server. At the start of the install procedure, the setup program sends an error message: "An error occured during the installation", and it goes to manual mode.

With Suse 7.3, everything is fine. I tried to intall in a safe mode, without ACIP, I removed all the HDDs except the first one (I have no hardvare RAID controller), but no success.

Any Idea?

Thx.

Did you try Setting up SuSE 8 in safe mode? If 7.3 works fine, then its probably a new software and/or hardware conflict specific to 8. I would recommend

a.) Trying Safe Mode installation
b.) Starting Setup from a floppy disk drive. (Create the floppy disk boot from within Winbloze)
c.) If you have any SCSI devices or any devices that emulate SCSI (e.g Zip Drives(both internal and external parralel or SCSI), SCSI hard drive, SCSI CDrom/burner/dvd drives, or Any SCSI-Like controllers (UltrDMA controllers), you may need to disable them. Try the setup with a completely IDE-like system.

good luck

Thx for the idea! My only one possibility is the b.) section, because my proliant has only scsi disks, and I1m over the safe install mode... ((( But I will try to install from fd. Thanks again!

Well if it Installs fine from floppy disk, then it MAY be tjat because you use a SCSI CDROM/Burner/DVD drive to boot it might not like it which is not a good sign.

I still think your problem may be somehow related to SCSI devices or SCSI-like controllers.

by the way, do you know where I can get a copy of SuSE 8.0? I just want the CDS, don't care for the docs, and I don't wanna pay that hefty 90 bucks for it.

Thanks for the ideas. I don't know where can you get 8.0, because I've bought it (and currently I have no working server to share it for you )) ).
