Compaq ProLiant DL360 G1 & SuSE 9.0

Hi,

When I try to install SuSE 9.0 the installer hangs on the second screen (autodetecting hardware command prompt screen) on the line "looking for infofile..."

The DL360 is a G1 with dual PIII 1gig and 1gig of ram. It is using its onboard SmartArray 221 controller with two 18gig drives ina RAID 1 array. I have flashed the BIOS to the latest version.

Any one know how I get the install to work ?

I know it is not on the certified hardware list but Mandrake 9.2 installs fine.

The installer makes assumptions on chipsets and the way to interact with them while doing hardware detection. This usually works for certified HW, but may fail at any time depending on a vast number of various conditions (HW maturity, driver maturity, chipset releases, component age, environmental influence, ...).

Try the "failsafe" installation option from the CD/DVD boot screen (at least no acpi). In addition You could use "expert mode" and "text mode installer ui".

The no acpi install worked like a treat.

Thanks for that, I really should have tried the other install options...

At least this is now documented in the forum for others to use
