[SOLVED] Steam games and wine problems
I have had this working on other linux distros, but am now trying out Slackware for the first time, and am having trouble getting anything to work really, so I will start here with Steam games not working.
Steam launches fine for me, but whenever i try to launch a game, nothing happens, it shows the preparing to launch window, then it just closes and the game never starts ...anyways, here is the output from console
Code:

Anyone have any clue on what I can try to fix this? I have already tried switching the sound driver in winecfg to OSS and ticking the emulate box at the bottom, but still has the same problem.
Thanks for any help getting this working in Slackware.

Which wine version? If you aren't using latest available version (right now it is 1.1.11), then you should upgrade your wine installation and try again. If it worked with other versions of wine, then you should use version that worked.

Just tried out a newer version of wine, 1.1.15 i think, on a fresh install of sabayon linux, and am coming across the exact same problem, so its some sort of configuration they have changed. From looking around the problem seems to be with Direct3D, does anyone know a way that i can cause it to boot into opengl mode? If i could get to game options i could easily change it, but it has to just boot once first...any other help is also appreciated.
peace

alright, this problem has been solved.
I got it to work by installing the win32codecs package that was available with my distribution (now sabayon, didn't really like slack). Anyways, all problems are solved now and it plays great and with good frames...will mark solved...
EDIT: err, maybe not, it won't change thread title, anyways, [SOLVED]
peace
