Sound problem with Xwave QS3000A [FM801]

Hello

I am running Fedora core2. When I installed Fedora it picked up my sound card and did play properly during the test part.

I loaded xine then tried to play one of my video files then, no sound.

If I do a sound detection, it gives me these details:

Vendor: Fortemedia, Inc
Model: Xwave QS3000A [FM801]
module: snd_fm801

This is how they are displayed. Now if click test button, no sound.

I checked if the module or modules were loaded and I saw two of them when I ran lsmod command.

I would appreciate all the help I can get because I want to move away from windows completely.

Thanks and regards in advance.

Welcome

Hi, and Welcome to Linux and LQ !

This may seem dumb but; did you check if your volume is not muted, or if the cables are plugged.
Believe or not, this is the most common cause for sound problems
To check if it is not muted do this:
Open a terminal, and at the command prompt type of this: alsamixer, aumix, or kmix, then check that it is not muted,
in alsamixer and in aumix to mute or unmute press [M] .
Also, i have to turn all up the VIA DXS to listen any sound.
Hope it helps

The cables are plugged correctly. I did find one comment under alsamixer that said Item: PCM Out PATH & Mute.

Is this the problem? If so, how do I disable it.

Thanks

Welcome
