RedHat 9 fm801 alsa problem

I am having trouble getting alsa to work with my Abit AU10 sound card, which uses the Fortemedia FM801 chipset.

I have so far tried RedHat 7.0, RedHat 8.0 and Makdrake 9.1 all to no success.

I have just now installed RedHat 9, kernel version 2.4.20-8. During the initial hardware setup, when it was setting up my sound card, it correctly detected the card, but when I pressed "test sound", all I heard was a little pop.

So I dowloaded and installed the latest alsa-drivers, -lib and -utils, but as soon as I typed "modprobe snd-fm801", I got the error message:

/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: unresolved symbol schedule_work
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: insmod snd-fm801 failed

Can somebody please help me with this, as at the moment, this persistent sound card problem is the only thing stopping me from completely switching away from Windows.

Yours,

Matt

Not sure, but maybe your problem is similar to one described in the thread "sound problems with QuadExtreme (ForteMedia, fm801)"
