Snes9x RPM version

Hey Ive got snes9x rpm version installed (latest) and when I open a rom (with the command "snes9x bla.smc" it opens the window but the picture is all cut off and the picture quality is really bad and I dont know the controls. This is what it looks like:

(thats to scale). Notice how the image is not centered and if I drag the window to make it bigger, it just enlarges it and doesnt fix anything.

Can anyone help me please

Looks bad . Try to avoid rpm's and get this precompiled package instead. You won't need to install anything, it's an executable

http://www.emuita.it/filedl.php?id=71

The page is in Italian, but you will get trough it .

Untar the file:

tar xvzf <package name here>

Now, if you run the program ./snes9x <rom name>

it will work just as bad as before. This happens because apparently, snes9x is running under 16bits colors. Or either you have a 24 bits desktop of you really are running at 256 colors mode .
A solution for this is to make snes9x run at full screen mode. To do so, you have to give write access to the user into the buffer/video memory. This is done like this:

su root
chown root snes9x gsnes9x
chmod 4755 snes9x gsnes9x

Now, back as a normal user, try to run snes9x like this:

./snes9x -fs <rom or path to the rom here>

you can also run it scaled to fit screen and at fullscreen mode with:

./snes9x -fs -sc <rom or path to the rom here>

For a complete list of commands, check out the readme file included into the package I've recommended ya .

I hope that was what you were looking for .
Good luck!

Just one more thing... you don't need to start running a game in fullscreen mode. If I remember right, you can press F key to switch between full and windowed modes.
The default buttons usually are enter, a,s,z,x,d,c,shift. It's very difficult to configure it sometimes and joypad configuration can be a pain. You have then two alternatives:

1-) get a graphical interface for snes9x. Try hitting google after snes9express. It's buggy but installs easy and does the job.

2-) tear your hairs apart compiling zsnes. It's hard to get it working, but works as good as the win versions, with graphical interface and everything

snesexpress "fullscreen permission denied"

snes9x "/home/parph/roms/USA/1943 - The Battle of Midway (U).nes"
/dev/js0: No such device
Can't open "/dev/mem", full screen mode not available: Permission denied

snes9x terminated by signal 13 "Broken pipe"

This is the message I get whichever rom I try to play with snes9express, I tried full screen checked off and unchecked and still, the same error all the time.

Read the readme doc that came with snes9x. It clearly explains how and why to enable fullscreen mode. Anyway, here is who to do it:

su root
chown root snes9x gsnes9x
chmod 4755 snes9x gsnes9x

Regards!
