I have a problem with my smoothie
about 4 months ago my smoothie stopped seeing the updates page and now says my update file is out of date and please update it however when I go to the maintenance page and "refresh update list" it just returns an error message
Error messages:
Could not download the available updates list.
now I can't upload fixes 5 & 6 because it won't recognize them. I did ask this at the smoothwall site and nobody could help.
any help would be appreciated, as I'm tempted to load IP Cop or monowall instead.
When I had a similar problem a year or more ago I came to the conclusion that somebody was blocking somebody, I don't know who.
Like you, my Smoothwall could not reach the update site. I also could not access the Smoothwall site from my browser. I could, however, reach the Smoothwall site from a shell account I had at the time, which would have connected from a differnet IP. I switched to IPCop for a while, until their next version refused to work with my network cards.
strangely enough I can reach the smoothwall site OK, it - smoothie - just seems to have lost the update page
You haven't manually blocked any IPs with Smoothwall have you? One could be the Smoothwall site. How about other manual settings?
If you can ping the Smoothwall site from another PC try pinging from the Smoothwall PC.
Nope
checked all the blocked IP's - No
can ping smoothwall.org from smoothie - yes
forced refresh ( ctrl - F5 ) of updates - still No
I suspect the smoothie has either lost or now has a corrupted address for the smoothwall updates page, but there doesn't seem to be any docs on how to correct that problem if it occurs.
