This is a pretty straightforward question. I have a "XawTV video0" icon on my desktop placed there by default because I have a TV card. I use TVTime, and want the xawtv icon gone!
The problem is when I try to delete it I get:
Access denied to /usr/share/apps/kdesktop/Desktop/dynamic_dev_v4l_video0.desktop
I've tried taking it out as root from the directory mentionned above, but it comes back on reboot!
I had this same exact problem back when I used Mandrake 9.1. Unfortunately, I could never figure it out so I am interested on if you ever get it off of the desktop. I switched to knoppix (installed on HD) now and LOVE it. The icon didn't come up on the desktop :-)...must be something in the boot up of Mandrake that creates the shortcut everytime or something. Everything with knoppix initially works better than it did on Mandrake (ie. no codecs needed for xine or java needed for konqueror, no real updates needed). The install is just about as easy as Mandrake and you also get the benefits of apt-get. I HIGHLY recommend it. It is a very active distro, so it will be maintained. Anyway, sorry I dont have an answer for you, but I'm eager to know how you get that icon off b/c I remember it was driving me nuts that I didn't have that control :-).
